UNITE AND SAVE THE CHURCES STRATEGIC MOVEMENT PROGRAM (USCSMP)
The Problem
According to the Chicago Police Crime Statistics Report, there were 25 homicides in the Englewood community since September of 2008, the start of the school semester, 20 of which occurred in the zip code area of Atonement Covenant Church. By October 21, 2008 Chicago had surpassed New York and Los Angeles in the number of murders committed and those numbers are rapidly increasing daily. According to NCES (National Center for Education Statistics) statistics the drop out rate for the community of Englewood is one out of every 2 students by the age of 16.
The Solution
Are you a church, community or not-for-profit group dedicated to youth empowerment as well as community and youth organizing? Then, come join us in the Save The Churches program (USCSMP).
We launched this program December 27, 2008 with an informational offering including breakfast, a presentation and an open discussion on how to empower and draw more youth into our churches and off the street.
Our mission is to save the churches by restoring the meaning of church back into the hearts and minds of the community. In this meeting we will introduce a new and innovative solution for the church that can be adopted and carried out by the church.
This plan is designed to restore the churches status as a vital contributor in reclaiming our youth and communities. We welcome all denominations. We believe that saving the church in the hearts and minds of the people will help us in the constant fight to save our youth. The churches are the backbone of our communities and must maintain a strong and viable presence.
